Are you frustrated? Or perhaps feeling happy now? In this blog I am going to share with you one simple technique on how to feel better in life and about life.
What kind of emotions are you experiencing right now? Is that anger, anxiety, feeling disappointed, lonely, confused or overwhelmed? Or rather more positive emotions like feeling accepted, trusting, proud or excited? Emotions are subconscious and we feel them in our body. We cannot control them but we can control how we react to them in simple terms.
I have been recently going through the roller coaster of emotions and like it was not enough, it was different during the weekday and weekend. And because it started to take too much of my energy I decided that I am going to do something about it.
Basically it is the awareness and reminding myself of what emotions I feel. For this one I used my “wheel of emotions” and checked daily how I was feeling so that I “label” these and I am not only living through them but rather I am in the observer role. You see, this is the power of awareness, to step outside the situation or the feeling and look at it from a third person’s perspective. Are you willing to try it?
You can find the wheel of emotions online or you are welcome to contact me and I will send you a copy of it. But if you do not have the wheel, you can do this instead. Write down on the piece of paper all emotions that you usually experience and then keep the list on your table and check regularly how you feel during the day. You can even measure or monitor it to see how you feel in the particular hour or part of the day. Make it simple and try it for a few days. And in order to help you with tracking, I have prepared for you a quick sheet that you can download below.
So you may ask, what can I do with the list of emotions now? At the end of the 7 days, take that piece of paper and see what the situation was when you noticed your emotions. Then ask yourself: What can I do differently? What can I do next time to experience this emotion?
Every week will be different because you will face new challenges and positive surprises however the key is to start seeing how you react in certain situations and how you can cope with these emotions in the future. Also as a coach I can say that this is a tool that will help you to design your life and learn how to stay optimistic and motivated.
How do you like this tracker? Is this something new or you have been already using it? Please let me know.
If you feel like this is too much for you, based on the words from Marisa Peer, “Your mind likes what is familiar”, like it first and then you will start working on it every day.
